HIPPOPOTAMUS
Hippopotamuses are giant herbivores who eat mostly grass. Females can reach over 2,800 pounds, while males can make it to 3,300 pounds. Despite their size, they can sprint at up to 19 miles per hour.
Dolphins, porpoises, and whales are the hippopotamuses’ closest relatives.
Hippopotamuses are vulnerable to extinction because of habitat destruction and poaching for their teeth and meat.
